Paternity and Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave
Introduction
This policy applies to Employees meeting relationship, responsibility and notice conditions; statutory pay has separate eligibility.
Paternity leave
Paternity leave is a day-one employment right for eligible employees from 6 April 2026. It may be one or two weeks, including separate one-week blocks where current law permits, within the statutory window following birth or placement. Required declarations and notice must be given, normally at least 28 days before the chosen start where practicable.
Paternity pay
Statutory Paternity Pay is separate from leave and remains subject to current earnings, service and notice conditions. PGS confirms eligibility and rate. Any enhancement must be in writing.
Stillbirth, neonatal loss and care
Paternity leave and pay remain available in statutory circumstances following stillbirth or neonatal loss. Neonatal Care Leave may be available in addition where the baby receives qualifying care.
Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave
Where the mother or primary adopter dies within 52 weeks after birth or placement, an eligible father or partner who takes responsibility for the child may take Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave. From 6 April 2026 this can provide up to 52 weeks, subject to statutory start, notice and return rules. Statutory pay is separate.
Terms and return
Contractual terms other than remuneration continue as required. Holiday accrues and pension contributions are made during paid leave under law and scheme rules. Applicable return and detriment protections apply.
