Sickness absence, Statutory Sick Pay, Company Sick Pay and Return
Introduction
This policy applies to employees and eligible workers; Company Sick Pay only where the contract or schme provides it.
Reporting and contact
The individual should personally notify the agency/client operational contact and PGS as soon as possible and normally before the start time, giving expected duration and any urgent handover without unnecessary medical detail. Reasonable contact must be maintained.
Evidence
Self-certification normally covers the first seven calendar days. A fit note is normally required afterwards and while absence continues. Medical documents are uploaded to the restricted portal area.
SSP from 6 April 2026
SSP is payable from the first qualifying day where current statutory conditions are met. The former waiting days and Lower Earnings Limit have been removed. Payroll applies the statutory rate or earnings-based calculation in force.
Company Sick Pay
Company Sick Pay is not universal. It applies only where the contract or separately approved scheme provides it and remains subject to service, reporting, evidence, duration and conduct conditions. PGS may offset SSP where the scheme says so.
Holiday, long-term absence and support
Holiday continues to accrue. PGS may seek occupational-health or medical advice with consent, consider adjustments, phased return, alternative work or capability support, and consult the agency or hirer. Disability-related absence will not be managed by an automatic trigger without considering adjustments.
Return and misuse
A return-to-work discussion may address fitness, causes, support, safety and records. Dishonest evidence or false absence claims may be misconduct, but genuine sickness, disability or protected absence is not wrongdoing.
